Oh My Stress

I do sincerely apologize for the lack of posts these days... this blog entry should provide you with some clarity. I am up to my eyeballs in stress... that was up until today.
I am in a senior high school English class and well, it's beyond stressful. There are so many projects/papers due and I feel as though with every new paper I write, I must strive to continuously write better and better with every one I had in. That is stress number one. Stress number two happens to also be a senior high school class. I am in an art class for grade 12 (or senior year to my fellow American's). This art class is not only demanding but throughout the year I continuously forgot about my sketchbook (thats 3 sketches a week. A portrait, anatomy, and freedom) So on top of English I have something rediculious like 26 sketches to complete in less than a week! Let the freak out begin. And stress number three has to be diplomas. A diploma, in case you aren't familiar, is a final exam, created by the government (ugh) that counts for 50% of your overall grade! I mean one may think no big deal, but it's pretty big! I have my written English tomorrow. Which means I have 3 hours to write a personal, and critical essay! I do feel prepared, but A LOT rides on this one exam!

On a positive note though! On my last three math exams I've gotten 93% which is pretty stellar for me because I hardly understand the times tables!
I hope you can de-stress your life as we enter a new year and new beginnings! I will leave you with a quote on stress/life etc.

"A time to relax is when you don't have time for it" - Jim Goodwin and Sidney J. Harris

Happy De-Stressing!

The Help

I recently started to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett for a project for an English class. It took me quite a while to get into the book, and actually starting from the beginning twice, but once I began there was no stopping. It was a thoroughly engaging novel and one in which I would recommend to everyone.

The Help recounts tales of African American housemaids and their struggles in a predominantly white society. To add a twist, Stockett includes the account of one upper class white woman, Miss. Skeeter. These black women (Abileen and Minny) explain what it is like to work for white women, living in a town in Mississippi where African American people cannot cross the bridge unless they are heading to work and the gossip between each white household.

I was genuinely impressed with this novel, except for one thing. Do you ever read a novel and by the end hope to goodness the ending you invisioned is the one that truly is? Well after the events of this novel unfold, I really had a set ending in mind, and much to my disappointment the ending I had hoped was not the ending that was. I would elaborate further, but I do not want to ruin it for anyone who may go and read it.

I really do suggest going and reading this novel, as I thoroughly did enjoy it. It taught me a lot about life and how far our society has come from the days of Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy Reading

Spreading The Word

These days with so many blogs out in the internet-world, it's hard to really get your name out. Unless you're famous, know famous people or spam your facebook account with your blog name, you're really lucky to have more than 10 hits in a month. SO! Along those lines, I figure I'd share a couple different blogs that my friends and family have started! I have read online blogs for months now, without having my own, and I've found quite a few I enjoy.

Truly, Madly, Deeply is a blog my cousin started about 2 years ago. She hasn't blogged in quite a few months, being pregnant and working is a full time job in itself let alone constantly blogging isn't in order, but the posts she has done are insightful, entertaining and enlightening. There are blog posts on everything from fashion and dessert ideas to insight on her own life and daily struggles. I am hoping that once she has a baby, and gets into the groove of motherhood, she will begin to blog again on being a mother.

Theunitedstatesofevan is a newly created blog, actually I think it was created today, that a friend of mine decided to start. I'm not sure if he decided to start because I started a blog, or he's been wanting to for a while, but in any case, it should prove to be interesting. If the blog is anything like the blogger, it should be a blog filled with insight on life, pet peeves, and probably a crude joke here and there. I look forward to reading future posts, and hope you will also follow this blog, as well as mine.

Above are just a few of the blogs I know personally and enjoy reading on a daily basis. I thought I would spread the word with those who read my blog and hope you enjoy my blog, as well as the ones above!

Happy reading!

Been Waiting 2 Years For This

SO! Today is a good day. Well, yes, today was a good day, BUT the day I found this out was one of the best days!
I love music. Music has been a part of my life since I was a wee tot, and I honestly couldn't imagine my life without it. People say things like "oh I'd die without music" but honestly I'D DIE WITHOUT MUSIC!
When people ask me what my favourite genre is I'm completely torn. I listen to everything from Norah Jones and Stevie Wonder to Keith Urban and Taylor Swift. I'm all over the map when it comes to musical selections. I'm REALLY "diggin'" the alternative genre these days such as Noel Johnson and Joshua Radin. It's okay if you don't know these folks, I've posted links at the bottom. Now back to the I'd die without music part. A few times a year I do forget my headphones at home and the bus ride to school is a long, slow and boring hour and a half.. and it would seem like the days we are late, meaning a longer bus ride, are the days I do forget them.
SO with all that information about me down, I can now proceed with the title of this blog. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 2 YEARS FOR THIS... THE RELEASE OF THE SCRIPT'S SECOND ALBUM!!!!!! It's called Science and Faith and I cannot wait. Due to be release January 18th, 2011. I know those in the UK have had this album on their trusty Ipods for months now, and I really did consider illegally downloading the album just so I could have it. (My conscience later got to me knowing the band wouldn't make any revenue and I revised that decision). Anyway, I first found this band on an American Airlines flight to Hawaii (one of those, for the most part, crappy airline radio stations). I remember hearing the song and scribbling down the title on a napkin so I wouldn't forget it. The first thing upon arriving back in Canada was downloading their album! After 2 years of listening to that album non-stop, I'm ready for a change as I now have the entirety of all the lyrics memorized. Only 17 days to go!
Linked below are Joshua Radin, Noel Johnson, and The Script's websites. On The Script's website are previews of songs from their new album. And if you haven't already, I highly suggest checking out The Script's first album before the second one is released.

New Year New Things

I know I've been saying this for a long time, but I want to start a blog. No, I need to start a blog. There are so many thingsI feel I want to talk about, and some days where there are things that need to be talked about. So this, my friends, is blog entry one. Officially.

I mean where does one start when blogging? It's been a question I've pondered many a times and I figured, it doesn't matter. As long as you're talking about things you love and are being truthful there is no right or wrong place to start.

I thought, what better a place to start than a new year? People make resolutions, start new things so this is my resolution/new thing. A blog. My resolution for 2011 is to post a new blog at least 3 times a week. I'm truly hoping that I can come up with enough things to blog about 3 times a week even potentially more. As I think of all the things going on in my life, and others I'm sure this won't be a problem. I mean someone who loves shopping as much as I do can surely talk about clothing and shopping more than 3 times a week.

I do feel as though I am rambling now, and would like to leave you with a final quote

"There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting"    ~ Buddah
