These Are a Few of My Favorite Things! Part I

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late my fellow bloggers! With the school year coming to a close, it's been difficult to keep up with the blog, but as of June 27th, I'll be blogging every day!
This next section of blogs are some of the things that I really enjoy in life, hence the title "These are a few of my favorite things" and there will be multiple posts like this one in the near future.

There are many little things in my life that make me so unexplainably happy. One of these things is a recently discovered treasure in the form of footwear. These shoes are known as Toms  and kind of make me a happy camper. They are so stylish and comfortable and the real selling point for me is the fact that for every pair purchased, a pair is donated to a child who doesn't have footwear. This company is really dedicated to making the lives of the less fortunate better, and they are concerned for the environment, these shoes coming in a biodegradable box dontcha know! This company with all of their positive efforts fits right in with my efforts to live a more righteous, wholesome, sustainable life. A really neat point with these shoes as well is the fact that with every purchase, you'll find a little Toms flag in your box. A very simple piece of cloth, but with incredible stories behind them. This flag initiative is a "challenge" of sorts in that you attempt to take a photo with your Toms flag on all your adventures. This summer, on my excursion through Europe, I will most definiately be taking this flag with me. I just can't seem to get enough of these shoes, and with a pair going to children in need, why not have a pair in every color?!

Happy Shoe Shopping,

"These Lights Will Inspire You, Now You're In New York"

Have you ever experienced something so amazing, so incredible that when it was over immense amount of sadness ensued? I thought I experienced that during the summer of 2009 when I was in Hawaii, but after visiting New York with my classmates this past week, my mind has officially been changed. I went on this trip thinking "I've been to New York 3 times already, how much more can I experience?" Well it's official, I had more fun than I ever thought and I do believe it is the people I went with that really made the experience that much better. There were some unexpected people that I became very close with in a matter of hours and I'm not convinced that I would have ever talked to them if it weren't for this incredible trip. There wasn't a minute that passed that I wasn't keeled over laughing uncontrollably due to a joke or a comment made by one of my friends. Some if the things we did I had already seen, however being there with the people you love truly makes the trip 70 times better.

We saw things like the Empire State Building, Lincon Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 5th avenue, Central Park, Times Square and 3 Broadway plays including Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera, and Sister Act.

I became really good friends with a lot of the younger kids whom I had honestly not said a word to at school. The younger kids really have a great sense of humor and a way about life that is so carefree. One of the most unexpected people I became so close with in honestly a matter of hours is a boy in the 11th grade. We have a friend in common and I had driven him home once before this trip but I really didn't know anything about him. I quickly came to realize that we are so similar and seem to laugh at the same stupid stuff. He has a wicked sense of humor and is such a gentleman, which is something I am not exactly used to. He is super shy, but once you break down that barrier and let him get to know you he is such a blast. We exchanged numbers and I hope we continue to talk, which I don't think will be overly difficult seeing as we have about a milli inside jokes and we are Officer Nasty and Detective Deepthroat.

A part of our trip in which I will never forget is our security guard. We had a security guard sitting outside our door to ensure everyones safety... except he was the funniest most relaxed guy I have ever met. He even helped us coordinate our last night party. Mr. Divine is not someone any of us will forget anytime soon.

I suppose I have rambled for far too long now and I should probably get going on uploading all 500 of the photos I took of everyone.

Love everyone who was on the NYC 2011 trip. It is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

xoxo

Oh, the irony

This is a little post poking some fun at the Prime Minister for saying that the Guinness Book of World Records was is favorite book.

Dear Mr. Martel,
I am writing you a letter in response to my comments about the Guinness Book of Records as my favorite book, i some sort of attempt to convince you to read this wonderful piece of literature. The book of records originated in 1955 with the first official release of a whole whack of fascinating records. This book has truly evolved into an engaging and informative work of art! Anything you could ever think of probably has a record in this book and it is fascinating to see how the human race has come so far. Speaking about humans there are records involving animals, reptiles (oh whoops, that's an animal. MY bad), machines, and pretty much anything you could name!

I know you're probably disappointed that I, the Prime Minister, didn't name your book, the life of pie, however, please don't be too upset. I do own your book and if I have time, I am a very busy man you know, I may consider reading it. Possibly between reading about the different records people have set. Obviously, this book can be found at your local library, and if it's at the library you KNOW its a read piece of literature. A big part of reading for me, is learning while I read. The book of records allows me to exercise my brain and learn some interesting stuff in the process. It's truly a win-win situation.

Some really cool records that have peaked my interest are
- World Speed Stacking Champion can do the cycle stack in 5.9 seconds! He practices for at least an hour a day! Too bad I'm not that dedicated to my country.
- The longest dog tongue in the world is 4 inches. He can't even close his mouth, which kind of reminds me of myself!

I really think that you could learn some interesting facts from this great book. It is a fabulous piece of literature, that you won't be able to put down. Give it a try, you may be surprised!

Love,
Steven Stephen  Harper

ps. If you don't like the book, I will be glad to have my secretary send you a complimentary bottle of Canadian Maple Syrup!

No names needed.

An odd title perhaps, but I felt as though I'd share about one of my bestfriends. Now they aren't aware that I am doing this so I will not use any names, but I really don't feel as though any names are needed.
This person means more to me that I think they currently know, or ever will know. They are a person whom I can completly be myself around, and never go without a ton of laughs. We have never really argued and just seem to mesh really well together. They are the funniest person I know and are inappropriate most times, but it's acceptable coming from them, actually I wouldn't expect anything less. They have a kind heart and I know if I was ever in need or perhaps trouble that they would be there for me. They are so understanding and we share the difficult things in our lives, that we sometimes would tether not talk about or deal with. Understanding seems to come naturally to them and I really look up to this person for this particular quality. They are great at photo bombing, and seem to get an unusual "high" from doing this. You can't not have fun with them, and I can't remember a time when we hung out and didn't almost pee our pants from laughing so hard.
I'm sure this person will know who they are by the time they have gotten to this part, however I still won't use any names.
I hope you never change and realize how much you really do mean to me. I know I'd have been the most lost person during high school if you wouldn't have been with me along this road. I hate thinking about us going away for university and not seeing each other. It makes me tear up just thinking about it. I know I'll be really lost for the first while without you just down the hall in another classroom :( I truly hope we stay friends until we hit the grave. I promise you can be my best bridesman at my wedding! Anyway. Never ever change and I hope this explains how much you mean to me. I could never do this in person as I'd be an emotional wreck and you probably wouldn't be able to understand me through all the tears.
Laaaaaave you long time mister! :)

Oh My Stress

I do sincerely apologize for the lack of posts these days... this blog entry should provide you with some clarity. I am up to my eyeballs in stress... that was up until today.
I am in a senior high school English class and well, it's beyond stressful. There are so many projects/papers due and I feel as though with every new paper I write, I must strive to continuously write better and better with every one I had in. That is stress number one. Stress number two happens to also be a senior high school class. I am in an art class for grade 12 (or senior year to my fellow American's). This art class is not only demanding but throughout the year I continuously forgot about my sketchbook (thats 3 sketches a week. A portrait, anatomy, and freedom) So on top of English I have something rediculious like 26 sketches to complete in less than a week! Let the freak out begin. And stress number three has to be diplomas. A diploma, in case you aren't familiar, is a final exam, created by the government (ugh) that counts for 50% of your overall grade! I mean one may think no big deal, but it's pretty big! I have my written English tomorrow. Which means I have 3 hours to write a personal, and critical essay! I do feel prepared, but A LOT rides on this one exam!

On a positive note though! On my last three math exams I've gotten 93% which is pretty stellar for me because I hardly understand the times tables!
I hope you can de-stress your life as we enter a new year and new beginnings! I will leave you with a quote on stress/life etc.

"A time to relax is when you don't have time for it" - Jim Goodwin and Sidney J. Harris

Happy De-Stressing!

The Help

I recently started to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett for a project for an English class. It took me quite a while to get into the book, and actually starting from the beginning twice, but once I began there was no stopping. It was a thoroughly engaging novel and one in which I would recommend to everyone.

The Help recounts tales of African American housemaids and their struggles in a predominantly white society. To add a twist, Stockett includes the account of one upper class white woman, Miss. Skeeter. These black women (Abileen and Minny) explain what it is like to work for white women, living in a town in Mississippi where African American people cannot cross the bridge unless they are heading to work and the gossip between each white household.

I was genuinely impressed with this novel, except for one thing. Do you ever read a novel and by the end hope to goodness the ending you invisioned is the one that truly is? Well after the events of this novel unfold, I really had a set ending in mind, and much to my disappointment the ending I had hoped was not the ending that was. I would elaborate further, but I do not want to ruin it for anyone who may go and read it.

I really do suggest going and reading this novel, as I thoroughly did enjoy it. It taught me a lot about life and how far our society has come from the days of Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy Reading

Spreading The Word

These days with so many blogs out in the internet-world, it's hard to really get your name out. Unless you're famous, know famous people or spam your facebook account with your blog name, you're really lucky to have more than 10 hits in a month. SO! Along those lines, I figure I'd share a couple different blogs that my friends and family have started! I have read online blogs for months now, without having my own, and I've found quite a few I enjoy.

Truly, Madly, Deeply is a blog my cousin started about 2 years ago. She hasn't blogged in quite a few months, being pregnant and working is a full time job in itself let alone constantly blogging isn't in order, but the posts she has done are insightful, entertaining and enlightening. There are blog posts on everything from fashion and dessert ideas to insight on her own life and daily struggles. I am hoping that once she has a baby, and gets into the groove of motherhood, she will begin to blog again on being a mother.

Theunitedstatesofevan is a newly created blog, actually I think it was created today, that a friend of mine decided to start. I'm not sure if he decided to start because I started a blog, or he's been wanting to for a while, but in any case, it should prove to be interesting. If the blog is anything like the blogger, it should be a blog filled with insight on life, pet peeves, and probably a crude joke here and there. I look forward to reading future posts, and hope you will also follow this blog, as well as mine.

Above are just a few of the blogs I know personally and enjoy reading on a daily basis. I thought I would spread the word with those who read my blog and hope you enjoy my blog, as well as the ones above!

Happy reading!

Been Waiting 2 Years For This

SO! Today is a good day. Well, yes, today was a good day, BUT the day I found this out was one of the best days!
I love music. Music has been a part of my life since I was a wee tot, and I honestly couldn't imagine my life without it. People say things like "oh I'd die without music" but honestly I'D DIE WITHOUT MUSIC!
When people ask me what my favourite genre is I'm completely torn. I listen to everything from Norah Jones and Stevie Wonder to Keith Urban and Taylor Swift. I'm all over the map when it comes to musical selections. I'm REALLY "diggin'" the alternative genre these days such as Noel Johnson and Joshua Radin. It's okay if you don't know these folks, I've posted links at the bottom. Now back to the I'd die without music part. A few times a year I do forget my headphones at home and the bus ride to school is a long, slow and boring hour and a half.. and it would seem like the days we are late, meaning a longer bus ride, are the days I do forget them.
SO with all that information about me down, I can now proceed with the title of this blog. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 2 YEARS FOR THIS... THE RELEASE OF THE SCRIPT'S SECOND ALBUM!!!!!! It's called Science and Faith and I cannot wait. Due to be release January 18th, 2011. I know those in the UK have had this album on their trusty Ipods for months now, and I really did consider illegally downloading the album just so I could have it. (My conscience later got to me knowing the band wouldn't make any revenue and I revised that decision). Anyway, I first found this band on an American Airlines flight to Hawaii (one of those, for the most part, crappy airline radio stations). I remember hearing the song and scribbling down the title on a napkin so I wouldn't forget it. The first thing upon arriving back in Canada was downloading their album! After 2 years of listening to that album non-stop, I'm ready for a change as I now have the entirety of all the lyrics memorized. Only 17 days to go!
Linked below are Joshua Radin, Noel Johnson, and The Script's websites. On The Script's website are previews of songs from their new album. And if you haven't already, I highly suggest checking out The Script's first album before the second one is released.

I highly suggest checking these guys out!

New Year New Things

I know I've been saying this for a long time, but I want to start a blog. No, I need to start a blog. There are so many thingsI feel I want to talk about, and some days where there are things that need to be talked about. So this, my friends, is blog entry one. Officially.

I mean where does one start when blogging? It's been a question I've pondered many a times and I figured, it doesn't matter. As long as you're talking about things you love and are being truthful there is no right or wrong place to start.

I thought, what better a place to start than a new year? People make resolutions, start new things so this is my resolution/new thing. A blog. My resolution for 2011 is to post a new blog at least 3 times a week. I'm truly hoping that I can come up with enough things to blog about 3 times a week even potentially more. As I think of all the things going on in my life, and others I'm sure this won't be a problem. I mean someone who loves shopping as much as I do can surely talk about clothing and shopping more than 3 times a week.

I do feel as though I am rambling now, and would like to leave you with a final quote

"There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting"    ~ Buddah
